Update : University initiations and first week of school

I haven't posted in a while! I cannot say that I will be able to start posting more from now on, but I will try! Since school has started things have been completly hectic and I have barely had time to myself, let alone write, but since I've had such a busy week I thought I would share some of it!

Just before this week started, last weekend, we decided to go to Montreal to pay our friends and family a visit for the first time since we moved here in early august.

We only stayed over one night because we couldn't leave our cats home alone very long, but we still managed to do a couple fun things. Most of the first we spent there was used to shop for my university initiation costume (which was kind of elaborate...still debating if I'm posting a picture or not below, should I?) We also went for lunch at my favorite all you can eat sushi Kanda :D

Then, on that evening, we decided to try out one of Montreal's famous medieval inspired restaurants : L'auberge du Dragon Rouge. The concept is that there are waiter and entertainers which are dressed as medieval characters and act/serve you with the speech and manner of the epoch. The ambiance is extremely lively and quite loud. Since we didn't have a reservation, we chose to eat outside  where you are not part of the direct entertainment, but you still get in-character waiters which was fun. I had a veal burger, while Mathieu and our friends chose boar ribs and stew! Great night overall!

The next day, we went to restock some goodies in chinatown and ate at Sumo Ramen for lunch. I had the unagi which was super tasty :) For dinner we joined Mathieu's dad and his girlfriend for a great meal in a french Bistro. I had boeuf Bourgignon and raspberry sorbet. It was a really fun evening!

After that, we came back to Quebec City by bus to make the finishing touches on our costume for the initiations.

This week consisted of a full initiation day, three nights out in a row (two in bars which we attended, and one in a sugar shack) as well as full days of classes pretty much everyday, but monday. I have already got tons to review and memorise!

I can tell this is going to be a busy four years! I'm really excited for it.

Here a some pictures of the week's festivities :)

I also forgot to mention, I bought some great suede booties! They're my first heels in forever, gotta get used to them, but they look great on!

Simple contrasting stripped Nail Art

Since my last nail art success I've been motivated to try out new designs on my nails. This one was more of a challenge, since stamping is very easy.

The hardest part was drawing the stripes to be about the same width and to be straight. Also working whit a white base (it's an old polish to make it worse) took some work, since it needed three coats to be opaque.

Overall, I think that I did a pretty good job. Obviously working with my non dominant hand was a challenge which means my right hand looks a little more sloppy, but the whole thing is pretty clean looking nonetheless. The design is simple, very contrasting and fun!

What do you all think? Should I keep posting nail art?

The Smurfs blue and white inspired makeup

I've seen so many ads about the latest movie for the smurfs while I was traveling! I wonder if I should go watch it! Anyone seen it? Is it any good?

Anyhow here is a look inspired by the smurfs' colors, blue and white!

I went for a matte white on the lid with a shimmery sky blue in the crease and a slightly darker version of the color in the outer corner. I finished up the look with a shimmery white highlight, mascara and black liquid liner.

I kind of like the softness of the look! It's bright, but at the same time it's understated in comparison to the looks I usually create.

Anyway what do you all think? Should I do more movie inspired looks? Any other ideas?

Harry Potter makeup : Gryffindor inspired

This is the last of the looks for my mini Harry Potter series : Gryffindor! It took my a while to get this one up because I had to redo it twice :S

Anyhow, I think this time it came out right!

It's red and gold to represent the colors of the Gryffindor house at Hogwarts! I used three shades of gold on the lid, a scarlet red in the crease and a dark burgundy color to darken up the outer corner.

What do you think of this new lighting? Better? Worse? Tell me what you prefer!

Harry Potter makeup : Slytherin inspired

This is the last makeup for the Harry Potter series that I will be posting tonight. I intended on uploading all of the at once, but I need to redo the Gryffindor one! I messed up the eye liner :S

Harry Potter makeup : Ravenclaw inspired

This is the second makeup in my mini Harry Potter series : Ravenclaw.

Now from what I read, the colors in the movie for Ravenclaw (silver and blue) are different from the colors in the books (blue and bronze). I decided to go for the later, since I have done more than one silver and blue combos in the past.

This is how Ravenclaw turned out!

What do you all think, like this mini series or not?

Harry Potter makeup : Hufflepuff inspired

My friend Ariane had the wonderful idea that I should make makeup looks in honor of the latest Harry Potter (and the brilliant series in general)!

So I decided to follow her advice, and even though it has been done lots of times, to make an eye make up inspired by each house.

This is what I came up with for Hufflepuff! A nice yellow smokey eye :D

Thanks again Ariane for the great idea. It was so much fun to do! Other houses coming up soon!

Simple Neon Pink Konad Manicure

I bought a Konad starter kit just before I left for Central America so I haven't had time to post a manicure using it yet! I did this neon pink, butterfly manicure today for fun and it turned out pretty cute so I thought I would share the idea!

That's all I used to create this

My pointer finger's buttefly is distorted because I'm still a newbie at stamping. By the way, this is my dominant hand, not bad right? The Konads are really easy to use once you get the hang of it :D I cannot wait to try out more intricate style.

It was super easy too!

I have to also mention that this was my first time using the Sèche Vite! It's hard to tell at the moment if it's as amazing as everyone say it is, but it did dry very quickly and did not smudge my designs which is a good start! Now let's see how it protects the polish from chipping!

Beauty Haul : Winners

I went to Winners today for some shopping and I found some great beauty products!

First I got this Barbie ♥ Stila set for just 10$!

The set includes a palette with two eye shadows and a beautiful blush, a black liquid eyeliner and red lipstick

It's great timing, my black liquid liner from L'Oréal is running out so now I got a backup! I love the thin tip :)

The red lipstick is really nice too, it's the first lipstick in my collection!

The palette contains a black shadow, a navy shadow and a peachy blush with gold shimmer in it.

The picture is not showing the blush (left) true to color. It's actually a lot more peachy and much less brown O_o

I also got something I have been wanting forever: Sèche Vite Top Coat *woohoo* I was so excited that I already made a manicure with it using my konad stamping set! (upcoming post)

That's all I got today!

I tried recreating Barbie's look on the tin! I don't think I can pull off red lipstick, lol.
