Merry Christmas + Last 10$/Week Challenge Update

Merry Christmas everyone! Hope you all have a wonderful day filled with fun and good times with your families. If you don't celebrate Christmas, then happy holidays, or simply I hope you have a great day! :)

So you all probably have noticed that I have been quiet for the last two months. I hope to start doing more posts again during the new year. I'm sorry for my silence, and I really don't have much of an explanation to offer as to why I haven't posted. I simply wasn't feeling motivated or inspired. I actually hadn't worn any makeup in 6 weeks until yesterday! Anyhow, hopefully you will be seeing much more from me on here soon. I'm leaving for a cruise in less than two weeks so I was thinking I could start with a pack with me cruise edition kind of deal. Let me know if you'd like to see that :)

As far the 10$/week challenge, I've been doing quite well. In fact, it ends in 6 days, and unless I do something terribly stupid until then, I've managed to stay on budget for the whole year! I'm incredibly proud of myself and I can hardly believe it's already been a whole year. Anyway, enough with the rambling, here are the latest and last items that I bought this year :

MAC Moisture Cover Concealer (23$), Smashbox Full Exposure Travel Palette (23$), Anastasia Beverly Hills Dipbrow Pommade (23$)

Sorry for the crap quality of the picture, I'm not home and all I have is my phone with me. :/ At least I'm posting something right? :p

So the total is 69$, which I'm basically rounding up to 90$ (or 9 weeks) because of sales taxes. So this concludes my resolution for this year! Hope you all enjoyed this and have a nice week everyone!

Projet 10$/Week 2014 Update n3 and Haul

So the resolution is still going strong! I must say I'm very proud of my restraint! Here are my latest purchases!

- Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder Palette (67$)
- Urban Decay Naked Basics Palette (33$)

Total : 100$ (10 weeks)

Since I had accumulated 500 points at Sephora, I also got the 500 points perk. It's a Laura Mercier kit that includes an exfoliator, a gloss (it smells heavenly!), a highlight powder (super potent!), and a deluxe sample size of their famous foundation primer and tinted moisturizer.

We're now up to week 22 of my new year resolution and we're doing well! I'm really excited about all of my purchases so far and super happy that I've been keeping up with this resolution. It's hard for me to stick to anything (except this blog, I guess I've been doing a pretty good job of sticking to that for the past few years when I think about it), so I'm especially impressed with my self control. Anyway, I'll update you all again in a few weeks with my future purchases. Let me know if you'd like to see reviews of any of these!

Projet 10$/Week 2014 Update and Haul : Recent Purchases

Hey all! Today I'm doing an update on my new year resolution for 2014. Basically, if you haven't seen my new year resolution post, I decided to allow myself a budget of only 10$ per week for makeup throughout 2014 in order to encourage myself to think more about what I'm buying, to make myself wait for things that I want, and to be more sensible in general with my makeup purchases. In other words, I wanted to break my impulse buying habits as far as makeup is concerned. This rule does not apply to product repurchases, meaning once I run out completely of an item I use frequently (or if it goes bad, for example mascara), I can replace it and it doesn't count in my 10$/week budget. I also decided to lay off Bath and Body Works as well as Lush until at least august (which will be my birthday, so I may allow myself to indulge then) or until I finish up all my products, whichever is quicker (probably the former).

Today, I thought I would update you all on how it's going since I have made a few purchases recently. I guess we could call this a haul, although it's really tiny.

Bath and Body Works

Status : I haven't even been in there for months, let alone buy anything. I'm doing good progress going through my hand soaps and candles, but ultimately I think it's unlikely I will run out of everything before august.

Lush

Status : I haven't been into a Lush store since December 2013. I still have body lotion and a few other bits and bobs to finish which are products that are difficult for me to finish. I'm really starting to crave a bath bomb now, but I am motivated to keep going.

Makeup

Repurchases : I have repurchased my favorite mascara because the ones (yes I have more than one tube) I have are getting old. I haven't broken into the new tube yet, but I'm keeping it as a backup so that I have it as soon as I toss the other two. I also got an Avène Thermal Water Spray which I use as a setting spray after my makeup is done. I have used many different products for this in the past, but all of them are finished now so I needed a new one.

New purchases : I have been lusting over this Bourgeois Healthy Mix Serum Foundation for a long time now. While Bourgeois is easily accessible here, it's quite expensive so I have waiting for the right moment to get it. It was 27$ CAD. (Therefore I'm counting this as 3 weeks) I also got a new perfume which I hadn't counted on. Initially, I hadn't thought about perfumes when I made my nye resolution. However, since I believe this was by no means a necessary purchase, I decided it needed to be included in my makeup budget. The perfume I got is Purr by Katy Perry and it was 20$ (representing two weeks of budget).

That's it for this update! I wasn't expecting it to be so long winded, I hope you all don't mind! Let me know in the comments what your recent beauty purchases were and if I should think about including them to my list of products to get in 2014! Have a good day everyone ♥

Project 10$ a week 2014

Hey everyone! Since the new year has started recently, I've seen lots of people talking about new year resolutions and whatnot. Every year I consider the option to make new year resolutions, but I've never been one to make them, mostly because I hate saying I'll do something unless I'm 100% sure that I'll see it through. Therefore, I don't like the idea of making a resolution and then abandoning it later.

This year though, I have decided to start a project, which is not really a resolution per say, but I guess it could count as one. I decided to give myself a 10$ per week allowance to buy makeup. (which can be accumulated over the weeks to buy more expensive products for example).

The reason behind this is because I have accumulated a lot of makeup in 2013, so much that it barely fits into my vanity anymore. It's not that I'm spending that much (because I always buy things on sale or clearance), but it's more that I think I just have too much stuff lying around now. I think it would be nice for me to take the time to think about things that I really want and that I would enjoy rather than impulse buying 2-3$ items all the time.

What I'm trying to say is, I'd like to focus on quality over quantity this year. By giving myself a 10$ allowance per week, it will help me take my time to choose products that I really want and also make me wait a little to get them. Anyway, I think this could really help me reign in my shopping habbits.

Exhibit A : This is a picture I took in June 2013
Exhibit B : This is what it looks like in January 2014. I guess it doesn't look that much worse, but I had to relocate my falsies and all my liners because it wouldn't fit inside my drawer anymore.

Exhibit C : I also had to move my palettes to a drawer because there are too many to put on top anymore. You can also see my lipstick and lip balm collection better from the angle in this picture. As you can see, there are a lot more than there used to  be last June.

I have 3 other sub-goals which aren't exactly makeup related, but I thought I would share anyway.

1) No Bath and Body Works purchases for at least 6 months or until I have used up all I have. I just have a bunch of it at the moment and I find it useless to buy more just because there are good deals going on.

2) No more Lush purchases for 6 months for the same reasons (and because it's expensive).

3) I will keep myself from buying the Alex 9 Drawer from IKEA until my birthday because it's expensive. If I can wait this long then I will deserve to get it for myself as a birthday present!

That's all for my goals for 2014! Have you made similar goals for yourself? Let me know in the comments I'd love to hear about them!
